On June 14, 17-year-old Gabriel Amaya was riding his bike across the southbound lanes of Prospect Road when an sport utility vehicle or pickup truck struck his front tire. Amaya was thrown off his bicycle and onto the roadway. He was later pronounced dead at Broward Health Medical Center.

Authorities said the driver of the vehicle stopped and got out of his car for a second and then fled in what they believe is a 1995-1999 GMC or Chevrolet SUV or pickup.
