Abandoned Baby Chimp Finds New Mom at Tampa Zoo

An abandoned baby chimpanzee has found a new mother to care for her at a zoo in Tampa, just in time for Mother's Day.

Multiple media outlets reports Keeva, who was born last month at the Maryland Zoo, arrived at the Lowry Park Zoo this week. Keeva was born healthy, but zoo officials say it became apparent her mother was not adapting to motherhood. Keeva was moved to be raised by zoo staff while they searched for a new mother.

They found the perfect match in Abby, a 32-year-old female who has already raised two orphan chimps.

Right now, Keeva is still being raised by human caregivers. Zoo staff says she will likely be introduced to Abby when she is 4- to 6- months old.
