Miriam Dolores Oliveras
The grandmother of a young girl who died after she was left inside a sweltering car in Miami for hours has been charged with manslaughter in the infant's death.
Miriam Dolores Oliveras, 49, was charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child after police said she left her 3-month-old granddaughter in a locked car for nearly four hours, which was parked near 68th St. and NW 5th Ave., according to police.
Miami Fire-Rescue workers responded to the scene, at 68th St. and NW 5th Ave., around 1 p.m., and found the girl on a bed in an apartment.
Attempts to revive the child were unsuccessful. Officials said temperatures in the car may have reached as high as 135 degrees.
Police said the baby had been in the care of the grandmother, who had taken the girl's mother to work, then forgot about the child when she returned home. Oliveras had to be taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for hyperventilation afterwards.
The baby's heartbroken mother was seen sobbing as police explained what happened to her.
