A Miami man is facing child neglect charges after police say he made up a story about how a young girl under his care was bitten by a dog.
Eddson Aldenis Berrios, 39, was arrested Wednesday by Miami Police Special Victims Unit detectives, officials said. He was being held without bond Thursday and it was unknown if he has an attorney.
According to police, Berrios was babysitting a 22-month-old girl back on Feb. 27 when she was bitten by a dog. She suffered several lacerations and a bone fracture as a result of the dog bites.
Instead of getting help for the girl's wounds, Berrios treated the girl at home, police said.
Berrios originally told detectives that the girl had been bitten by a stray dog at a park near his home, but he later admitted that she was actually bitten by his dog at his home, police said.
In addition to two counts of child neglect, Berrios is charged with falsely reporting a crime to law enforcement.
