Bad Crash Closes Sawgrass Expressway Northbound at Sunrise Boulevard

A violent rollover crash had all northbound lanes of the Sawgrass Expressway closed in Broward Thursday morning.

At least two people were airlifted to the hospital and eight others were hurt after a violent rollover crash had all northbound lanes of the Sawgrass Expressway closed in Broward Thursday morning.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. at Sunrise Boulevard and involved a single van that had a tire blowout, authorities said.

Two victims were airlifted as trauma alerts, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky said. Two others were taken to the hospital as trauma alerts and another six were taken to the hospital, Sunrise Fire Rescue officials said.

One patient suffered a severed hand, officials said. The van appeared to be a construction vehicle with heavy equipment inside.

No other information was immediately known.
