Two South Floridians Arrested on Terrorism Conspiracy Charges

Raees Alam Qazi, 20, and his sibling, Sheheryar Alam Qazi, 30, of Oakland Park, were taken into custody Thursday by the FBI, officials said. NBC 6 reporter Steve Litz reports from the suspects' apartment complex.

One of the two brothers charged in a South Florida terrorism support case will be in court Tuesday as he seeks to be released on bail.

Raees Qazi, 20, is scheduled to attend a pre-trial detention hearing in federal court in Fort Lauderdale at 11 a.m.

Qazi Brothers Plead Not Guilty

He and older brother Sheheryar Alam Qazi are accused of providing material support to terrorists and attempting to obtain a weapon of mass destruction. Both have pleaded not guilty.
 
Prosecutors could reveal more details about the purported plot and what targets the two were allegedly attempting to strike. It's also not clear how far along the alleged plot was and whether the men had connections to overseas terror groups such as al-Qaida.

The brothers are naturalized U.S. citizens originally from Pakistan. The face life in prison if convicted of both charges.
