A benefit concert was held last night for the teen victim of a brutal beating outside her Deerfield Beach school earlier this year, and it was music to her ears.

Josie Lou Ratley was presented a check for $5,000 at the Hard Rock in Hollywood Thursday night, after a concert featuring legendary acts from the 60's was held in her honor.

Ratley, 16, and her mother, Hilda Gotay, were in attendance as the Turtles, the Grass Roots and Monkees member Micky Dolenz performed all their hits as part of the "Happy Together" tour.

The money will go toward Ratley's medical expenses as she recovers from the brutal March 17 beating that left her with severe brain damage.

Ratley faces months of rehab for the injuries sustained in the attack, and though she lost the ability to perform several basic functions like writing and speaking, her mother was able to express her gratitude for the outpouring of support.

"We have a long ways to go, and things like this and a lot of prayers, you know...we still need the prayers," Gotay said. "It's hard to explain, only a mother who's been through something like this could understand but I just want to say thank you, and so does she."

Wayne Treacy, the teen accused of the crime, remains behind bars, awaiting trial on an adult charge of attempted murder.
