A day of relaxing at a barbecue turned violent after a fight erupted between several men, resulting in one man being slashed with a sharp object.
Guytea Jean Francois, 37, died of his injuries on Monday.
Early Sunday morning, Broward Sheriff’s deputies were on routine patrol in the 100 block of Northwest 10 Street in Pompano Beach when they came across several people running in the street.
A quick investigation revealed the people were running away from a gathering at a nearby home where a cookout was being held. An argument led to a violent confrontation between three men.
Francois was slashed with a sharp instrument, deputies said. He was rushed to North Broward Medical Center where he later died.
Homicide detectives arrested 32-year-old Sonny Hilaire for 2nd-degree murder. BSO has identified the third male involved in the altercation as 28-year-old Tony Petigny.
Police said Petigny usually hangs out around Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach and is considered armed and dangerous.
