‘Barefoot Burglar' Arrested in Miami Beach: Police

A man police are calling the "Barefoot Burglar" was arrested Thursday after breaking into a Miami Beach home as a family slept inside, authorities said.

John Carlos Cairo, 19, is facing two counts of burglary in the incident that happened at a home in the 4400 block of Prairie Avenue, according to a Miami Beach Police report.

According to the report, Cairo burglarized the victims' Bentley before entering the home, where a husband, his wife and their two small children were inside.

Cairo removed his shoes once he was inside the home but the husband and wife woke up in their bedroom to find him standing over them, the report said.

The report said Cairo ran out of the home but left his shoes on a couch in the home. He was found and arrested a short time later, police said.

Police said when he was in the interview room for questioning at the Miami Beach Police Department, he allegedly tried to escape through the roof. He was then transported to TGK and charged with escape.

Cairo was arrested two days earlier on drug-related charges, police said. Detectives are also looking into other burglaries he may be responsible for, police said.

It's unknown whether Cairo has hired an attorney.
