Batmobile To Be Auctioned in Fort Lauderdale

Here's your chance to own caped crusader's car

Holy impractical car, Batman!

If you'd like to prowl through the streets in search of arch villains The Riddler and Two Face in the Batmobile like Val Kilmer did as the caped crusader in 1995's "Batman Forever," you're in luck.

Auctions America by RM in Fort Lauderdale is auctioning off the sleek-looking vehicle this weekend as part of its "Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale" event at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center.

But you better bring your pocketbook. The Batmobile is estimated to sell for between $200,000-$275,000.

You'll also have a hell of a time driving and parking it. It stretches a lengthy 25 feet long and a tail fin towards the back brings the height to 10 and a half feet.

The good news is you'll be paying a fraction of what it cost to make the car, which has a fiberglass body and custom chassis. The body mold for the Batmobile cost $2.5 million with the actual construction of it in the $300,000 range.

No word on whether it drives up walls or withstands bullets as it did in the film.

Other cars at the auction include a 1957 Chrysler Imperial Convertible purchased by billionaire Howard Hughes and a rare 1963 Shelby 289 Cobra.

Public viewing runs Thursday until 8 p.m. and the auction runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.
