Bicycle Cops Sniff Out Motherlode of Marijuana

Over 1,200 plants worth $750,000 found in Lake Worth warehouse

Some Palm Beach County deputies on bicycle patrol in Lake Worth were nearly knocked off their rides by the scent of over 1,200 marijuana plants found in a massive warehouse grow house operation.

The deputies were pedaling near the warehouse on the 600 block of North G Street Monday night when they sniffed an "extreme" odor of marijuana, according to WPTV.

When they entered the building, they were stunned to find 1,256 plants worth an estimated $750,000 on the street. They also found lamps, a hydration system and other equiptment used in the operation.

What they didn't find was suspects. No arrests have been made and police are still trying to determine who leased the building.

No one at the several auto repair businesses near the warehouse had smelled anything suspicious, and police are saying cops in a car might not have picked up on the scent.

"Normally the officer is patrolling in his car and he may not pick up that scent (marijuana) that strongly as he's out on his bicycle, walking behind buildings, checking businesses as they are doing patrolling," said Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokesman Eric Davis.
