Biden's Commencement Speech For South Florida High School To Be At Marlins Park

Vice President Joe Biden will be speaking at the June 4 event

Broward County's largest school, Cypress Bay High School, is hitting the history books as the first school to hold graduation at Marlins Park, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

Vice President Joe Biden will be speaking at the June 4 event, which is expected to be attended by 7,500 people. The commencement had been planned at the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami, but the day that Biden could attend at that facility was already booked.

"Obviously we're thrilled,'' assistant principal Jeff Nelson was quoted by the newspaper as saying. "Who better to motivate and inspire our graduates than the vice president of our country? It's an honor to have the No. 2 guy in charge of our country speak to our graduates.''

The school is paying $17,000, or $6,000 more than at the other venue, to close the roof and other expenses.

The newspaper reported that an anonymous donor was paying the difference in venue price.
