Body Not Yet Recovered in Silo Roof Collapse: Titan America

Pierre Mezidor, 58, fell 140 feet when the roof of a concrete silo collapsed at the Pennsuco cement plant Friday morning

Titan America said Monday that recovery crews still haven’t found the body of a worker who is presumed dead after he fell into a concrete silo in Medley, but the company said it would keep searching for him.

Pierre Mezidor, 58, fell 140 feet when the roof of a concrete silo collapsed at the Pennsuco cement plant Friday morning.

He was measuring the cement content of the silo when the roof collapsed, according to the company. He fell onto dry, packed cement below, but rain has fallen inside the 250-foot silo since then.

A 300-ton crane that was brought to the scene Sunday is working to pull debris and cement out of the structure.

Mezidor, who worked in the production department of the plant, was employed by Titan for 19 years, according to his family.

Miami-Dade Police and the Department of Labor are investigating the incident.

Titan America, which has said that it deeply regrets the incident and emphasized its concern about employee safety, said that it will keep searching until they find Mezidor.
