Body Pulled From Canal Next to I-95

The FHP was investigating a crash in the area over the weekend, BSO says

Authorities pulled a male body from a canal off NW 8th Street and NW 10th Avenue in Pompano Beach late Thursday afternoon.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office said that divers found the body face-down in the murky water about an hour and a half after a passerby alerted the BSO that it was there.

"About 3 o' clock this afternoon a passerby walked up to a deputy sherrif and let him know that a male body was in the canal," Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky said.

The sight was chilling for Cassandra Canty.

"I'm so shocked to come out now to see that the police and the dive team are just now coming here," said Canty, who wonders if the body belongs to someone involved in a rollover wreck Monday night in the same area, just a few hundred feet from her doorstep.

The FHP said that on Monday night a car traveling north on I-95 carrying two people rolled over into the canal, which is next to the interstate highway.

One person was recovered soon after, but the other was not. Then the body was found Thursday just 200 feet south of the crash site. It remains unclear if that body is that of the missing victim from the car crash.
