All Passengers Cleared After ‘Suspicious Activity' Reported on Paris Flight to Miami International Airport: Police

Miami-Dade Police responded to Miami International Airport after reports of "suspicious activity" on an airplane arriving from France.

American Airlines Flight 63 landed safely at MIA, after departing from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, France.

The FBI said, during the flight, a crew member found a suspicious cellphone, which no passenger would claim. Out of an abundance of caution, upon landing at MIA, the plane was directed to a designated area for investigation.

After a complete search was conducted by law enforcement of the plane and its passengers, no threat was located.

FBI agents said a passenger finally came forward and claimed the cellphone. No charges were filed and there was no terrorism connection to the incident.

The Boeing 777 was carrying 217 passengers and 14 crew members. It landed just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday after a nine-hour flight.

Around 6:30 p.m., police gave the all-clear. The passengers re-boarded the plane and were taxied to Concourse D, where they received normal processing by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

MDPD said local, state and federal agencies were involved in the initial investigation.

Miami-Dade Aviation Department said the aircraft had been moved to a remote area of the airfield for the investigation and was not affecting any other airport operations.
