Bars, restaurants can serve liquor early on Sundays in Delray Beach now

Boozers in Delray Beach will be saying "Cheers" a little earlier this Sunday, after the City Commission voted to allow bars and restaurants to start letting the liquor flow at 7 a.m. on the Lord's Day.
The long-overdue measure was passed unanimously yesterday, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
Delray has come out of the dark ages to join Boynton Beach and Palm Beach County in rolling back sales times to 7 a.m. While there's no state law against selling liquor on Sundays, many towns and municipalities enacted them under pressure from religious entities.
The booze flows freely in Miami-Dade, where there are no so-called Blue Laws in place.
Convenience and grocery stores still won't be allowed to sell alcohol in Delray until noon, with the reasoning being that drinkers won't consume as much in a bar or restaurant than their home.
Commissioner Adam Frankel voted to approve the repeal, even though he thought it was unfair to those stores.
"I don't want to hold this one up," Frankel said, according to the Sun-Sentinel. "If you're going to allow the sale then you have to uniformly allow it."
Commissioner Fred Fetzer said it's all about the Benjamins.
"I don't want to have Boynton Beach or county restaurants having a competitive advantage," Fetzer said.
