Border Patrol Investigating Possible Smuggling Operation After Migrants Land on Fisher Island

Between 17 and 20 migrants landed on the shores of Fisher Island in Miami early Friday morning, leading Border Patrol agents to say it might be part of a smuggling operation.

Officials told the Miami Herald that a multi-agency investigation is underway.

Security on the gated island of luxury homes called Miami Police around 7:30 AM to report a possible smuggling operation in effect. The migrants arrived on what Border Patrol called a “go-fast” type of vessel that landed.

Crews did not disclose the nationality of the migrants at this time. The arrival comes less than one day after nine Cuban migrants were captured by the Coast Guard off of Key Biscayne.
