A young boy had to be rushed to the hospital in a bizarre shooting incident outside a Miami restaurant.
Amid the New Years festivities in Miami last night, a young boy had to be rushed to the hospital in a bizarre shooting incident outside a restaurant.
Police are puzzled as to how the six-year-old boy was shot in the stomach early this morning outside Mai Tardi on the 100 block of Northeast 39th St., according to police.
The boy and his family, visiting from Italy, were celebrating the coming of 2010 on the front patio of the restaurant at around 1 a.m. when he started complaining of stomach pains.
As the family was in the car on the way to the hospital, they realized he'd been shot. He was quickly rushed into the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
He is expected to survive the shooting, police said.
Now police are trying to figure out where the bullet came from, though they believe it was a stray bullet.
Celebratory New Years gunshots have been a problem in South Florida, with at least five deaths in the past few years attributed to the reckless activity.
Just last year, a little boy was shot to death in Opa Locka while hiding behind a sofa that was the target of someone emptying a clip as the clock struck midnight.
