Boyfriend Arrested in Dania Beach Woman's Murder: BSO

The boyfriend of a woman who was shot and killed in their Dania Beach apartment has been arrested in her murder, authorities said.

Clifford Bernard Stewart III, 20, is facing a second-degree murder charge in the death of 19-year-old Tynecia Denise Williams, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

Stewart remained behind bars without bond Wednesday, jail records showed. It was unknown if he's hired an attorney.

Deputies responded to the couple's apartment in the 700 block of Southwest 4th Terrace Tuesday afternoon where they found Williams suffering from a gunshot wound.

She was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital where she later died.

Stewart told deputies that an unknown black man had approached them, shot Williams and fled in a getaway car, officials said. But when detectives questioned him, his story changed multiple times, officials said.

After he dropped his story about the gunman, Stewart said that he had put one bullet in the revolver and that they were playing Russian roulette, officials said. He said he was trying to stop her when the shot was fired.

When he was confronted about the inconsistencies in his story, Stewart admitted that they were alone in the apartment when he accidentally shot her in the abdomen, officials said.

Stewart also admitted that the gun was fully loaded and that he buried it in a wooded area behind their apartment building, officials said.
