Boynton Beach Woman Arrested After Boy Injured With Pellet Gun: Report

The boys were playing "war" with each other, The Palm Beach Post reported

A Boynton Beach woman was arrested after a 10-year-old boy under her care was shot in the leg and stomach with a pellet gun while playing “war” with another boy, The Palm Beach Post reported.

Felicia Slaughter, 41, faces a charge of neglecting a child without great harm and is being held on $3,000 bond after the incident Monday, according to online Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office records.

Boynton Beach Police and fire rescue crews responded to South Atlantic Drive on Monday at 3:56 p.m. after getting reports about the pellet gun shooting, the Post reported.

The 10-year-old, who had flesh wounds, said that he and his friend were playing and shooting at each other with the guns. His friend told police he had no idea pellet guns could cause serious injury, according to the newspaper.

The boys were in the care of Slaughter, who said that she also saw them shooting at a 7-year-old boy who was shot in the knee and stomach. He ran away screaming in pain, and police asked her why she didn’t intervene, the Post reported.

“What am I supposed to do, take the guns away from them? I am not their mother. I’m not doing that. They never listen,” Slaughter told police, the Post said.

The youngsters were treated on the scene.
