A body found at a gas station in the Florida Everglades in Broward County has been determined to be from a homicide that took place in Central Florida.

Broward Sheriff’s deputies responded to an assist call from the Miccosukee Police Department Tuesday night after witnesses reported a person had been killed and their body dumped in the Everglades.

Early Wednesday morning, BSO deputies found the body located at the station near mile marker 49 along Alligator Alley, approximately 25 miles west of US 27.

Officials say the body was from a homicide that took place in Sebring, located 120 miles north of the scene. BSO contacted the Highlands County Sheriff's Office, who confirmed to NBC 6 that the victim was a male and they asked Broward deputies to search a scene in South Florida, but nothing was found.

Officials in Highlands County say 56-year-old Michael Ceiello shot and killed his roommate, stole the roommate's car and drove to Broward where he dumped the body.

Ceiello was arrested and expected to face charges of first-degree murder, grand theft, tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, officials said.

He was being held without bond Wednesday and it's unknown if he's hired an attorney.

Authorities haven't released the identity of the victim.
