A man who claimed he accidentally shot and killed his sleeping wife in their Tamarac home has been charged with murder in her death, authorities said.
Jason Browdy, 35, told deputies he accidentally shot his wife, Monique Browdy, in the head as she lay in their bed, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.
According to officials, the report of a shooting at 5720 Tuscany Terrace came in just after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Monique Browdy was taken to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition. She later died at the hospital, officials said.
Detectives and crime scene units were on the scene gathering evidence and investigating the reports.
Jason Browdy was being questioned by detectives. He was later charged with first-degree murder, BSO officials said.
According to an arrest report, Browdy said he keeps a gun under his pillow and as he sat up in his bed, the gun went off.

But the injuries weren't consistent with the gun going off accidentally, the report said. The report also noted that Browdy said he waited 40 minutes to call 911, and a witness said they heard a gunshot three and a half hours before it was reported.
Browdy made his first appearance in court Wednesday, where he was ordered held without bond. His parents and sister attended the hearing.
His attorney argued for his release, saying Browdy has lived in Broward all his life.
On Tuesday, authorities said they were still investigating the shooting.
"We are in the process of speaking to people in the neighborhood and gathering information to try to determine exactly what happened in this case," BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said.
Neighbors described the neighborhood as quiet and peaceful and said they were shocked to learn of the shooting.
"We have 20 kids around here so that's very dangerous, something like that happening in this neighborhood," Patricia Gleeson said.
