Defenses have had trouble stopping Ronnie Brown when he is on the field, but a sprained ankle looks like it will stop the train for at least one game.
Brown will likely miss Thursday's game versus the Carolina Panthers because of the injury, which he sustained in the win against the Tampa Bay Bucs on Sunday. The Miami Herald is reporting Brown will get X-rays on his ankle today, but the short turnaround between games isn't doing the Dolphins any favors.
"Obviously, I can't really talk about it right now,'' Brown said to reporters. "We've still got to do some tests and see what happens. We did some X-rays. I don't think it's too bad.''
Fins Nation sure hopes not. Brown has battled through injuries during his time as the Dolphins chief ball carrier, including an ACL injury that forced him to miss most of 2006. The circumstances, while not as dire, do share some similarities.
Brown was leading the league in yards from scrimmage in 2006 before he went down and this year, Brown is the triggerman for the Wildcat, which sends a chills down the spine of every defensive coordinator.
Brown went down midway through the third quarter after he broke a long run and then fumbled fighting for extra yardage.
Without him, the Dolphins didn't use the Wildcat again or sub in Pat White for the "Pistol" offense during the second half of the Bucs game. The Dolphins are infinitely easier to game plan against without the added unpredictability of the Wildcat.
Still, Ricky Williams rushed for over 100 yards and will be asked to carry much of the load as the Dolphins push for .500.
So what can Brown do for the Dolphins? Get better real soon.
