Brush Fire Breaks Out in Coral Springs

Officials say they'll let brush fire burn out as long as it moves west

Officials say they will let a brush fire that broke out in the Everglades in Coral Springs Sunday night burn out on its own.

The blaze started just west of the Sawgrass Expressway between Coral Ridge Dr. and Sample Rd. just after 7 p.m., burning some 70 acres.

Overnight, drivers could see just how close the fire spread toward the Expressway, covering Coral Springs in smoke as it inched toward traffic. The fire is not posing that threat any longer as it burns further west into the Everglades.

The goal is to keep it contained and away from traffic. Because winds were calm Monday, officials expect the fire to stay put and burn itself out.
