Bullpen Blows Another Game For Marlins

The Miami Marlins dropped their third consecutive game on Saturday with a 5-4 loss to the New York Mets.

Tom Koehler was not at his best but he still turned in a quality start and left with a chance for a win. When Koehler was lifted from the game, he had provided 6.1 innings on the mound in which he allowed two runs on only two hits. The problem for the right-hander was control as he walked four hitters.

Koehler ended up being charged with three runs in all when Bryan Morris surrendered a game tying two-run home run upon entering. The runner on base that Morris inherited was from Koehler. For Morris, it was the first run charged to him as a Marlin after 20.1 innings across 37 games.

The loss ended up going on the line of Mike Dunn who followed Morris out of the pen. Dunn gave up a run on two hits while only retiring two batters. That run was the eventual winning run and it came across the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning.

This was the second game in three days that the bullpen was unable to get the job done. Closer Steve Cishek blew a save to finish the series in Arizona and begin the current losing streak.

The bats were active for Miami in this one but it wasn't enough due to the inefficient relief. Christian Yelich hit his eighth home run of the year and also walked. Runs batted in were collected by Donovan Solano (12), Yelich (31), Garrett Jones (37) and Marcell Ozuna (52).

Giancarlo Stanton continued to slump as the All-Star is now only 1-18 over the past five games. Stanton is also without an extra-base hit since June 28th.
