Burglar Leaves License at Plantation Business

Man arrested after leaving license at crime scene, posing for Facebook photo with evidence: Police

A bumbling thief is behind bars after he dropped his driver's license at the scene of a Plantation burglary then posted a photo of him posing with evidence on Facebook, police said.

The burglary happened Tuesday at Arion Motors at 550 State Road 7 when two suspects broke through glass to get into the used car dealership.

Video of the incident shows the two sifting through documents and car keys as one suspect, identified as 21-year-old Travis Rice, accidentally dropped his license while pulling out his cell phone.

"These criminals, definitely not the brightest," Arion manager Jonathan Shamis said. "What happened was during the robbery they reached out for the cell phone and what happened while that moment of reaching out for the cell phone, he dropped his driver’s license at the same time. And I mean that was just the best part."

Police said Rice later posed with the stolen keys for a photo posted on social media, which landed him behind bars.

"Probably one of the world's dumbest criminals," Shamis said.

Rice is facing grand theft and burglary charges, and remains behind bars at the Broward Jail without bond.

The stolen keys haven't been recovered and Rice's alleged accomplice is still at large.
