Burglar Strikes in Coral Gables; Possibly Tied to Serial Prowler

Police in Coral Gables are searching for a burglar who struck overnight and say he may be tied to a serial burglar, known for lurking over his victims.

Investigators said an unknown male subject broke into an apartment at the 200 block of Mendoza Avenue early Wednesday.

"Around 5:30 we had a call come in and a woman said a subject entered her home. She got into a struggle and he fled," said Officer Kelly Denham of the Coral Gables Police Department.

Officers in Coral Gables are now working with police in the City of Miami where they believe the same man is committing similar crimes.

"We've had six cases over the last year that we have now been able to link, over the last month, as the same subject in those occupied burglaries, as the one in the city of Miami," Denham said.

Miami Police have released a composite sketch of the man who is wanted in connection to a dozen cases spanning from Northwest 27th to 47th Avenues and from West Flagler to 11th Street.

The subject is described as a white male, between the ages of 20 to early 30’s, possibly wearing a hoodie sweatshirt or other material to conceal his identity.

In all of the cases, women have been awakened and touched by the subject. People in Coral Gables are becoming increasingly concerned.

On Wednesday officers went going door to door in the affected areas to notify residents and ask for their help in identifying anyone that they think is acting suspicious in their neighborhoods.

Officers are also urging people to keep their doors and windows locked at all times, to turn on exterior lights at night and to keep a phone close by when they sleep.

Residents are being asked to report any suspicious persons or vehicles to the Coral Gables Police Department.

Anyone with any information about these crimes, is asked to contact the Coral Gables Police Department at 305-442-1600 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
