Burned Bodies Mystery in Miami-Dade

Police find two dead bodies at two separate fires days apart

Two different fires in South Florida have led to two murder mysteries after bodies were found burned at both scenes, and now police are investigating whether the two deaths are linked.

The first body was found late Friday night off Southwest 197th Avenue as firefighters were responding to a call of a brush fire in rural Miami-Dade. The victim, 25-year-old Erik Comesana, was found burning within the flames.

Just five days later, on Wednesday, another body was found in a remote wooded area near Okeechobee Road and Krome Avenue after firefighters responded to another blaze. The second victim's identity has not been released.

"Because of the fact that we did have on a Friday night a found burnt body and we had another burnt body on Wednesday, so within a week we get two, so of course that catches our attention," said Det. Alvaro Zabaleta, with Miami-Dade Police. "Investigators are going to be able to cross reference the cases, they're gonna do comparisons on the cases, see if in fact there is any possible relationship between the two cases."

Zabaleta said detectives are still investigating both cases, and that the second victim's identity will be confirmed by the coroner, though he did say it was another white man.

"At this point it is too early to determine if in fact the cases are related," Zabaleta said.

Police are asking anyone with information on either death to call Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
