Cameras Catch Car Driving Down Lincoln Road Mall

An investigation is underway in South Beach after cameras captured a car driving through Lincoln Road Mall on a busy Friday night.

A Toyota Camry took over the busy Miami Beach shopping and dining promenade around 11:30 p.m. Friday night.

A concerned resident took out their cell phone and recorded the incident, then shared it with Miami Beach Commissioner Michael Grieco.

“From what I understand, the vehicle had already come through the area, had turned around and dropped off a stroller for somebody and then turned around and came back,” Said Grieco.

Witnesses say the driver was alone.

“Between what happened in Vegas, between what’s been happening in Europe. We have a lot of soft targets here in Miami Beach,” said Grieco.

Posted signs ban motorized vehicles, bikes and skating at the outdoor mall.

Back in August, Miami Beach installed new barriers, but not every intersection is blocked.

“Right now, we have concrete barricades that are set up on the west side where Lincoln Road hits Alton, also where east side hits Washington and also I believe on Española Way,” said Grieco.

Many tourists and residents alike say the pedestrian heavy mall is vulnerable to car or truck attacks like those across Europe, Barcelona and Charlottesville, VA.

“One of those cars could just make a right hand turn and plow us over as we stand here,” said Grieco.

Miami Beach Police are aware of the video circulating on social media and are investigating the incident.
