Car Swallowed By Sinkhole in Central Florida

A water main break in central Florida created a hole so large it swallowed a car.

Deputies, road maintenance, and fire rescue were all called to the scene in Beverly Hills, a small town west of Ocala, but there was little they could do.

The car was eventually submerged in the water-filled hole.

Crews have closed the road and warned motorists to stay away from the area.

Workers eventually managed to pull the car out of the hole.

The driver, Matt Jacques, said he didn't realize a water main had broken beneath his car.

"All of the sudden, my front two tires fell, and I tried to back up and it wouldn't, it just started sucking me in a little bit. Water started coming up through the bottom of my car,” said Jacques.

He said he saw the puddle, but thought it was just standing water.

The driver said by the time he realized what was going on, it was too late.

β€œIt started leaning forward, so I jumped out the side and pretty much that was it.”

Jacques was not hurt in the incident.
