Officer taken to hospital after confronting suspects

Miami police investigate the scene after a cop is run over by a pair of suspected car thieves early this morning.
A Miami police officer is in the hospital this morning after he was run over by the driver of a stolen car, police said.
Miami Police were following the stolen car early this morning when the female driver and her male passenger ended up on a dead-end street at NW 7th Ave. and 23rd St.
Police cornered the car thieves but rather than surrender, the driver put the car, a silver Nissan, in reverse and drove straight towards an officer.
The passenger opened his door, striking the officer, who then became pinned against another car.
The suspected car thieves were both arrested at the scene.
The officer was taken by ambulance to Ryder Trauma Center. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.
