Career Criminal Arrested in Pompano Beach Fatal Shooting: BSO

Authorities have arrested a man in the shooting death of another man during an armed robbery at a Pompano Beach apartment complex.

William Murrell, 33, is facing a first-degree murder charge in the Feb. 2 killing of Donald Ray Foster, Broward Sheriff's Office officials said.

Murrell was being held without bond Thursday, jail records showed. No attorney information was available.

BSO officials said Murrell tried to rob Foster at an apartment building at 2744 Northwest 6th Street. He walked up behind Foster and put a gun to his head and reached into Foster's pockets, authorities said.

Foster tried to push Murrell away and Murrell shot him, killing him at the scene, authorities said.

Authorities said Murrell has an extensive criminal history with 20 prior arrests in Broward County, including grand theft, burglary, domestic violence and possession of cocaine and cannabis with intent to sell.
