1 Arrested, 1 On the Run After Armed Carjacking: Miami Police

Police apprehended an armed carjacking suspect after an early morning chase in Miami, and they are looking for a second suspect who managed to get away.

According to Miami Police, the 19-year-old suspect carjacked a man just before 7 a.m. in the area of Northwest Eighth Street near Fourth Avenue in Miami. The victim was able to flag down nearby officers, and informed them that he had just been carjacked and that the black Nissan belonged to his mother.

The victim was not injured, police say.

Officers began to pursue the carjacked vehicle, but briefly suspended their pursuit once the suspect got onto Interstate 95.

After about five minutes, the teen lost control of the car on the ramp connecting I-195 and I-95 north. The suspect tried to bail out of the passenger door, but was stopped by officers with their guns drawn.

A second suspect who was riding in the passenger seat managed to get away.

The ramp to northbound I-95 from the Julia Tuttle Causeway was closed for much of the morning while police investigated. The lanes have since been reopened.

Anyone with information on the second suspect is asked to contat Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.

This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
