Cavalia's Newest Show “Odysseo” Comes to Miami

The largest touring production in the world is here

You can't reign in the horsepower of Cavalia's newest show "Odysseo." It opens Wednesday in Bicentennial Park in downtown Miami.

It's the largest touring production in the world – a visual display of horses and artists under a big top that's bigger than a football field. The theater seats 2,290 people and each seat offers unobstructed views.

"You get to see like an IMAX theater with live performance in front of it," said creator Normand Latourelle. "Odysseo means Odyssey, which is a journey throughout the most amazing landscape in the world."

Seventy horses and 50 performers from around the world discover nature's horizons.

Acrobats twirl around a merry go round. It's a kind of equestrian ballet.

"It's a dream. It shows a passion about men and horses that have shared together, to conquer the world," he said.

Latourelle, who cofounded Cirque du Soleil, says the show pushes the artistic and technical limits of theater.

"Moving around 10,000 tons of dirt, sand and material to create the stage, having 80,000 gallons of water to fill the stage with water, all these are big challenges," he added.

The cast of horses train six days a week, 45 minutes a day each to prevent exhaustion.

"As a horse they do their own thinking, you can't think for them," said performer Veronica Turner from Colorado. "They're not machines, so they have their own emotions, each day can be different."

It's part reality, part fantasy – a two-hour show that will make you forget you're in the heart of Miami.

"I want them to feel that magic experience that anything is true," said performer Majolie Nateau of Canada.

Wednesday's debut show is sold out.
