Police have confirmed about $16,000 in loses after a group of alleged robbers walked out of an AT&T store with various stolen phones. NBC6's Ari Odzer reports.
It can take as little as seconds to steal thousands of dollars’ worth of cell phones.
In Davie, the police have confirmed about $16,000 in loses after a group of alleged robbers walked out of an AT&T store with various stolen phones.
Police are not sure what the phones are being used for, but they say the robbers could be doing various things to get large amounts of money.
“It could be anything from the terrorist activities happening around the world,” said Dale Engle with the Davie police. “These types of devices are being used for the improvised explosive devices but it could be just that they’re selling them on the black market.”
The robbery is believed to be part of a coordinated effort in the tri-county area. According to police, the robbers target cell phones, tablets and computers.
“Anytime someone goes into store with a gun and starts demanding people to do things- it’s a dangerous situation,” said Engle. “You never know what these people might be confronted with and what their reaction would be.”
