Charges Dropped Against Dania Beach Middle School Worker Who Brought Gun to School

A security specialist at a Dania Beach middle school who was arrested after he brought a gun to the school in his car on the first day of classes is no longer facing charges.

Broward prosecutors dropped all charges against Nathaniel Strowbridge Thursday, a year after he was arrested at Olsen Middle School for possessing a firearm on school property.

"I am elated," Strowbridge told reporters outside court Thursday. "All I ever wanted to do was protect those kids."

After receiving an anonymous tip, deputies got a search warrant for Strowbridge's car and found the gun, a .45 caliber Taurus, on the floorboard on the passenger side, the report said.

Strowbridge was arrested and booked into jail, and later lost his job. He worked as a security specialist at the school since 1997, according to Broward County Public Schools officials. He previously was a security specialist at Coconut Creek High School.

Strowbridge said he doesn't want the job back but is still pursuing a civil lawsuit against the Broward School Board.
