A late night fire inside a Fort Lauderdale apartment has claimed the life of a 6-year-old girl.

The father of the victim, Leo Sears, confirmed to NBC 6 that his six-year-old daughter, Kaileen Alvaranga, died in a fire that broke out inside the apartment located at 1045 NE 8th Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Officials have not confirmed any details of the fire or the child’s death, but the father said his daughter lived with her mother and the mom’s boyfriend as well as several other children.

Sears and family members say they have filed multiple complaints with the Florida Department of Children and Families over issues with the mother in the past, but officials have not confirmed that as well.
