Toddler Killed by Out-of-Control SUV in Oakland Park

Broward Sheriff's deputies said the driver lost control, driving in a circle until he crashed into a parked vehicle on the street.

A four-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car in Oakland Park Saturday night.

Broward Sheriff's deputies said the accident happened around 6:30 p.m. According to BSO, 65-year-old Deliverance Delien was visiting a residence on the 700 block of NW 42nd Street.

Officials said the man accidentally stepped on the accelerator as he reversed his Chevrolet Tracker SUV out of the driveway. Delien lost control, driving in a circle until he crashed into a parked vehicle on the street.

Delien then sped forward as he tried to leave the scene, but again lost control of his SUV, according to police. He drove into the front yard of a home at 706 NW 42nd Street, striking a vehicle parked in the driveway. That vehicle in turn struck 54-year-old Estelida Morales and her 4-year-old grandson, Joshua Snyder.

Oakland Park Fire Rescue transported both victims to Broward Health Medical Center where Joshua was pronounced dead. His grandmother suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

BSO said Delien remained on the scene and cooperated with traffic homocide detectives.

The case is ongoing, and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
