Looking like she walked straight out of the pages of a magazine, supermodel Cindy Crawford poses next to larger than life photographs now decades old. Some of those photos once graced the covers of Italian Vogue. Crawford is a muse for fashion photographer Marco Glaviano.
"This are the most iconic pictures I took in my career, when models used to be beautiful like Cindy, before the industry changed to anorexic model [body] types," said Glaviano.
The collection of diamond dusted black and white photos were chosen by Glaviano and Crawford herself for an exhibition at Art Miami's VIP Preview event. Her trademark mole, now gracing the walls of Art Miami.
"Cindy is the ideal of beauty," Glaviano said.
Steps away a Banksy piece originally spray painted on the walls of a Brooklyn, New York home, found its way to Miami.
The 75 year-old man who owned the home that Banksy used as his canvas, wanted it gone.
"He told me, there are 400 people in front of my house. I don't know why. 'Who is this Banksy,'" the homeowner asked Stephan Keszler, owner of the Keszler gallery in New York and South Hampton.
"Broken heart," created by the street artist during his last New York City visit was tagged by another graffiti artist. In response Banksy, called the artist a jealous little girl.
To protect his identity street artist Herr Nilsson wore a monkey mask to the preview. The street art he displayed showcased Sanrio characters, out of character: shooting guns a la Grand Theft Auto.
"I made the cutout, and then I made a painting of Grand Theft Auto, which is a [tough] video game to have the conflict there between the sweet and the violent," Nilsson said.
The VIP Preview event benefits the Perez Art Museum Miami, whish is set to open it's doors during this very important week in the art world. The grand opening of the downtown Miami museum is yet another indication of the mecca South Florida has become for art.
"This is the most important place in America, Miami to be this week if you're involved in the contemporary art scene," said Nick Korniloff, Director and Partner of Art Miami.
