Clubgoer Shot Dead in Lauderdale Lakes: BSO

Marquel McCormes was shot as he made his way home from a late night out, the BSO said

The Broward Sheriff's Office said a 29-year-old man was shot dead as he came home from a late night out at a local club Saturday morning.

Officials said Marquel McCormes, of Opa Locka, was coming home with a group of friends but was lagging behind. When he finally entered the house, he collapsed on the floor with blood in his mouth, the BSO said.

McCormes was taken to the hospital where he later died of a gunshot wound.

McCormes and his friends had been at FME Club at the 4200 block of State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes.

He had driven his black Dodge Charger to to a friends house to drop him off and then headed to a house on 3540 NW 24th Street. When he entered the house, he collapsed in the kitchen from his injuries, BSO said.

"I'm hearing that he's dead, I'm hearing he got taken into custody," said Appolonia Walker, the victim's girlfriend.

Walker waited in a parked car outside 3540 NW 24th St, where the man had collapsed, waiting to hear what happened to McCormes. Detectives would confirm to her that the man she loved had lost his life.

Walker said her boyfriend, who is affectionately called 'Quel by friends, is the son of a retired BSO deputy. She added he very rarely goes out, unless it's with her.

"He doesn't go out if he goes out it will be me and him going out having fun. He would basically work and go home," said Walker.

Detectives are now trying to determine if the man's death was the result of a dispute that started at the club or elsewhere.
