The United States Coast Guard rescued a couple whose single engine airplane crashed just off the coast of Andros, Bahamas just before 1 p.m. Saturday.
According to the Coast Guard, the single engine Cirrus type aircraft made a distress call to traffic control tower personnel at Miami Center of Aircraft Emergency at around 12: 15 p.m. informing them that the plane was going down due to engine trouble.
The Coast Guard deployed a HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircraft from Miami to find the airplane and a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Clearwater to recover the survivors.The fixed-wing aircraft found the downed airplane which had deployed its parachute system.
Richard McGlaughlin, 59, and Elaine McGlaughlin, 25 of Birmingham, Alabama were hoisted into the rescue helicopter from an emergency inflatable raft and flown to Odyssey Airport in Nassau, Bahamas.
There were no reported medical injuries.
