Chad Johnson Played Memorial Football Game for Student Who Drowned

Former NFL player Chad Johnson was among those who played a game of football to honor a South Florida student who drowned over the weekend in Orlando.

Friends and family of Oscar Enriquez, 21, who lived in Miramar and attended Miami Dade College, held a football game Tuesday at Bright Park in Hialeah to commemorate his life.

Johnson, formerly known as Ochocinco, attended the game to show his support for Enriquez, whose family says had a passion for football.

Orlando Police Department is investigating his death and said the drowning was accidental.

During Tuesday’s memorial, Johnson played in a football game with Enriquez’s friends and family as a way to honor his life.

Johnson also prayed as Enriquez’s friends and family lit candles.

Johnson says he decided to go to the memorial game after seeing a tweet about what happened to Enriquez. After the game, Johnson donated his game cleats to Enriquez's parents.

Alex Sanchez, a friend of Enriquez who helped organize the game, said it was emotional to see how many people showed up in support of his friend.

Sanchez says his next goal is to get LeBron James to write #SmileForOscar on his shoe during a game. They also want to get Kobe Bryant to do it too as Enriquez was a big fan.

Donations for the funeral have poured in on social media as people have been tweeting and posting pictures on Instagram with the hashtag #SmileForOscar. Over $14,000 has already been raised since Sunday.

The viewing and burial will take place Friday and Saturday at Vista Memorial Gardens. Click here to donate to Enriquez’s family.
