Three people have pleaded guilty to federal charges arising from their use of undocumented workers in Miami-Dade County school construction projects.
The president of a Hialeah building company, his wife and son face up to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty Friday to two conspiracy charges.
U.S. Immigration and Enforcement officials say Daniel Builders Inc. hired workers without legal status in this country so they could pay them substandard wages and increase their profits. The company also didn't pay overtime or withhold Social Security or employment taxes.
The building company used these workers on a $2.7 million Miami elementary school project. Nineteen of the workers have been deported.
