A freak accident involving a steamroller has claimed the life of a construction worker in Broward County.

The unidentified victim was struck by a machine with a large roller attached to it Thursday afternoon on the northbound side of the Florida Turnpike near the Sunrise Boulevard exit.

The worker died on the scene.

Views from the scene showed the man's body covered in a tarp on a freshly paved strip of road just a few feet in front of the large roller. About two dozen construction workers were also present.

Florida Highway Patrol officials said the roller "collided" with the worker, but have not released any further details.

So far, no one has been charged in the accident, but police are investigating the incident.
