Cop Caught Pair Installing Credit Card Skimmer at Davie Gas Station: Police

Two men who were caught in the act while trying to install a credit card skimmer at a Davie gas station are facing charges, police said.

Raul Hernandez-Beltran, 30, and Rafael Mirabel Bonora, 28, were arrested Wednesday on charges of fraudulent use of a scanning device, Davie Police said.

According to police, a sharp-eyed officer spotted a car at the Marathon gas station at 4450 S. University Drive around 4 a.m. Wednesday and immediately noticed that the men weren't pumping gas but were opening the gas pump cover.

As the officer got closer, he saw one of the suspects trying to install a credit card skimming device inside the pump, police said. Both men were taken into custody.

When police searched the men and their car they found numerous items consistent with credit card skimming including special tools to access the pump, a laptop computer, other skimming devices, several gift cards, and even extra Department of Agriculture seals, officials said.

The suspects were booked into jail, and attorney information wasn't available. Both Hernandez-Beltran, of Hialeah, and Mirabel Bonora, of Miami, were listed as being unemployed in arrest reports.
