Name Released in Cop-on-Cop Shooting

A Lauderhill police officer shoots at another, with the "who" and "why" still up in the air.

The name of the Lauderhill police officer that shot at a fellow cop around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night has been released.

Lauderhill Police Department says Officer Kristopher John Bieger is charged with attempted first degree murder and discharging a firearm from a vehicle. The bullet missed the intended victim, whose name is not being released.

Police said in an e-mail that Officer Bieger was arrested and booked in the Broward County Main Jail around 11 a.m. Sunday. He was taken into custody by SW 49th Ave. in Davie sometime after 10 p.m., where he fled after the shooting, police said.

Bieger has been with the City of Lauderhill since 2006. He has been suspended without pay.

Lauderhill police didn't comment on the nature of the incident, or why it happened.

According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the shooting took place by Inverry Boulevard and NW 56 Ave. in Lauderhill.
