Coral Gables Liquor Store Robbery Caught on Camera

Five thieves were caught on camera stealing several cases of expensive liquor from a Coral Gables store where an employee was pepper sprayed when he tried to stop them.

The theft happened last Friday at Gulf Liquors. Surveillance videos show the first guy grabbing a case of Scotch whiskey, followed by a second guy who grabs two cases and a woman grabbing whatever she can before walking out of the store.

"First time that happened and I've been in this store 29 years," said employee Albert Broche, who was working the register. "Everything happened in a matter of seconds."

Broche said the group came in around 6:30 p.m. and went after cases of Johnnie Walker Blue Label, which costs about $200 per bottle. When he realized what was going on, he called over another employee who grabbed one guy and fell to the ground.

"One of the ladies came over and hit him in the face right here, by the ear," Broche said.

Then one of the guys pepper-sprayed Broche's co-worker. The thieves are still on the run.

"It happened so fast we couldn't do nothing," Broche said.

Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
