Coral Springs Man Found Guilty of Trying to Hire Hit Man to Kill Witnesses

Man accused of killing wife found guilty of trying to have witnesses killed

A Coral Springs man accused of killing his wife has been found guilty of attempting to hire a hit man to kill four witnesses in the case.

Munawar Toha, 65, was found guilty of four counts of attempted solicitation to commit first-degree murder by a jury Friday after less than a day of deliberations.

He now faces 30 years in prison for each count.

Toha has been behind bars since his arrest in April 2010 for the murder of wife Surya Toha. Police say she disappeared after she dropped the couple's two young kids off at school.

Days later, her body was found inside her car in a Pompano Beach lake. Detectives say surveillance cameras showed Toha shoving the car into the lake.

He is still awaiting trial in the murder case and has pleaded not guilty.

During trial earlier this week, prosecutors said Toha asked an undercover cop who was posing as a hitman to kill four witnesses in the case.

Toha's attorney argued that an inmate who facilitated the conversations between Toha and the undercover cop was to blame and said there was no chance anyone would be harmed.
