Coral Springs Police Officer Arrested on Grand Theft Charge

A Coral Springs Police officer surrendered at the Broward County Jail Thursday on a charge of grand theft related to his work as the former president of the city’s police union.

Investigators say Doug Williams used the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 87’s Wells Fargo debit card to make more than $1,500 in purchases from a grocery store, home improvement store, and other restaurants.

“These are very serious allegations against members of the Coral Spring officers and we are cooperating with the Broward State Attorney’s Office,” said Coral Springs Chief Tony Pustizzi.

Police said Williams, along with his wife Detective Sherry Williams, and Officer Michael Hughes all face charges related to the alleged theft. Sherry Williams turned in her resignation, while Doug Williams has been suspended from the Coral Springs Police Department since October, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Coral Springs Police said Sherry Williams and Michael Hughes are expected to turn themselves in on Friday.
