A Coral Springs teacher was being held in the Broward County Main Jail on $3,500 bond Friday night after he was arrested for emailing obscene material to a student, according to authorities.

Warren Zilka, 43, of the Imagine Middle School at Broward charter school sent more than 100 emails to a 14-year-old student, several of which had explicit material, Coral Springs Police said.

The emails were sent from his school-issued computer to her Google account and contained sexual statements, questions and invitations, according to police. His former eighth-grade student came forward with the emails recently, police said.

“They were – most of them – very, very explicit in nature. Things we can't even say on television,” police spokeswoman Sgt. Carla Kmiotek said.

Zilka turned himself in and was arrested Friday and faces two felony charges for transmitting material harmful to a minor and the unlawful transmission of obscene material, officials said. No one answered the door at his house when NBC 6 went there Friday, and it wasn't immediately known whether he has an attorney.

Zilka's picture no longer appears alongside those of other eighth-grade teachers on the school's website.

Authorities urge anyone with information on this case to contact Det. Jill Shelton at 954-346-1222.
